Introductory post for the internship testimonials: Last September also marked the end of the internship of our interns, Evien See, Jia Wei Ong, and Khor Chien Man.
For the first time, we decided to take in first-year law students as our interns this year. And, they repaid our trust handsomely. Their enthusiasm and dedication more than compensated for their limited legal knowledge and skills.
We exposed them to tasks or projects other than the typical legal research, clerical work, and mooting training usually associated with any internship programme. Instead, we assigned them tangible projects to plan, launch and manage. Amongst these projects are social media, newsletter and CSR initiatives. They literally started these projects from scratch. For that, we are extremely thankful.
To better understand the legal world that is currently undergoing sweeping changes, we brought in different legal industry stakeholders to interact with our interns. They had the opportunity to exchange views on thought-provoking topics like “the future of lawyers” and “the workplace of future lawyers (Gen Z)” with representatives of different stakeholders, from academicians, lawyers to clients.
We sincerely hope that our interns benefited from our internship programmes, much like how we gained valuable insights from their idealism and perspectives. More than ever, we are convinced that having such an internship programme can be a mutually enriching experience for parties. We are looking forward to welcoming new interns in the near future.
